    Kantaris for Windows 7

    Kantaris for Windows 7

Windows 7 has finally been released which you probably already know unless you have been sleeping under a rock. Since previous versions of Kantaris had some video quality issues on Windows 7 I needed to get a new version out fast. Hopefully the issues are fixed now, I haven’t tested it myself because I’m still running Vista but users have told me it’s now working fine. Another thing that has changed is that I’ve removed the Last.FM radio feature and the replaced it with music from Playlist.com (yes, I know the tab still says Last.FM). The reason is that Last.FM has decided that only paying subscribers will be allowed to listen to the radio from anything other than the embedded player at the official website. I don’t agree with this decision as I think that Last.fm’s open access to the API was one of it’s best feature and it made the service unique but I guess they not making enough money. Anyway I decided to replace it with searchable playlists from Playlist.com. The Playlist.com service is more legally questionable than last.fm but they do have contracts with record labels so I think it’s alright.

On a personal note, I’ve moved to Guiyang, China. It’s not permanent, I’m just here to write some industrial management software for my fathers company. It’s actually very cool here, much better then you get the impression of from western media and things are developing really fast. Just now in this “small” city (population of 4 million) there are 50 skyscrapers being built and I’m not exaggerating.

Hi. I just downloaded Kantaris last night, and I’m trying to “figure it out.” Is there an audio library? I can’t seem to find one. Basically, I’m looking to sync/burn/rip, play audio/video from a library that I can manage, and download podcasts. I really like the look and feel of Kantaris so far, and if it could do those things (and you’d tell me where to look for it), I’d be stoked.

      Thanks.

The Only thing we support right now is video library which you can find from main tabs at the first screen that show up.We are working on audio library.Stay Tuned!.
burn/rip is not supported right now. Thanks,

I was intrigued by the fact that there is a version that you don’t have to install. However, I am not sure which exe file should be used to launch, kantaris.exe or kantarismain.exe? Additionally, it writes some settings to the %AppData% folder in my Win7 and I also found a vlc folder there although I don’t have the VLC media player, but I’m not sure whether Kantaris did that.
Does the settings path depend on the exe I choose to launch the player? Is it possible to change that, e.g. by writing something in an ini file?

kantaris is the main file which should be launched. It loads the initial framework screen too.
I don’t think kantaris creates vlc folder but it uses vlc libraries at core too.
Did you installed vlc media player at any time in past.It might be there from that time.

      Thanks,
      Sonam Singh,

I like this but you have changed all my mp3 etc files to Kantaris files. Messing with peoples computers is not acceptable! Why did you even think of it? Fix it please.

      Yours well pissed off

      Dave

      Hi Dave,
Kantaris hasn’t messed up your computer. No change in files.Thats actually a setting that changes by default open with settings.
That means, when you double click the mp3 file, the default program opens that file which in this case is kantaris. It can be Windows media player or vlc or any program.

      I hope that helps.
      Best Wishes,
      Sonam Singh,
